You can navigate the map by moving the mouse pointer to the edges. Then an arrow will appear and clicking down the mousebutton will allow to navigate around.

You zoom by clicking with the mouse any place on the map. Then hold down the mousebutton and drag while creating a red square. Release button when you have your zoom area.
